The cities have been selected based on the weather during the first half of the year, the level of friendliness towards electric bikes, and the economic demographics of both the residences and the visitors during specific events.
This entire program is being done in conjunction with the support of our strategic partner Interbike, the nation’s largest organized B2B trade show for the cycling industry.
As the program evolves, more locations and additional dates later into the year will be added.
The initial sponsors and exhibitors will become part of ExtraEnergy's advisory committee and will have say in the future locations and features.
The Tempe eBike Expo was a lot of fun! Here is a report from the Phoenix Electric Bike Expo.
Located within minutes from the downtown gaslight corridor and just West of the airport, the Liberty Station complex is a mixture of shopping, dining, entertainment, non-profit, hotels, and residential. The 360-acre complex is historic as it was the training buildings on the original Navy Yard.
This is a very unique location in that it is both a tourist draw as well as a popular local destination. Our involvement with the California Bicycle Coalition will have many state and local officials participating in the event as well as recreational cycling groups and plenty of outdoor enthusiasts from the surrounding beach communities, who can actually ride right to the event. The Expo location is in the heart of the complex with many important retailers that draw high traffic.
The third stop on the tour is in the heart of Houston, Texas on the Rice University campus. We are working jointly with BikeTexas and the various local cycling coalition offices. The event is in conjunction with the Texas Trails and Active Transportation conference.
This biennial conference will have more than 300 city planners in attendance. The focus of the educational programs is for anyone involved in the planning, construction, funding, economics, operation, management, promotion and use of bicycle, pedestrian, and other transportation modes.
The Rice University campus location is a well known spot that hosts one of the city’s Farmers Markets and is adjacent to the outdoor cycling track.
In the heart of Silicon Valley, this Expo event will be the weekend after the major Sea Otter cycling event. Tentatively on the grounds of the famous Stanford Shopping Center (just adjacent to Stanford University), we are working to bring hundreds of workers from the major tech companies who commute on bikes to companies like Google, Facebook, and Apple to try the different types of electric bikes.
The mall itself is a premium outdoor shopping destination. We are working with California Bicycle Coalition as well as local coalition partners and expect city officials from San Francisco, San Jose and the surrounding communities to be part of the visiting public
